Do you need language to use in creating your will, trust or other estate planning? Here is suggested bequest language for your use. Please review it and share with attorney/tax advisor during the process of preparing your plans.
Leaving a Bequest to the Jane Goodall Institute
Thank you for remembering the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) while making your estate plans. In addition to providing for your loved ones, bequests from wills and living trusts are wonderful ways to support JGI’s research, conservation and education activities in Africa and globally for generations to come.
One of the simplest ways to make a significant and enduring gift to JGI is through a bequest in your will or revocable living trust. While bequests do not involve a transfer of money or property now, they do call for planning with the help of an estate-planning attorney
Bequest language can vary from state to state, and country to country. Consequently, we always recommend that you contact a legal advisor close to your home who specializes in estate or probate law to assist you in drawing up your will or trust. With that in mind, the following bequest language may act as a helpful guideline:
General Purpose
I give, devise and bequeath to the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation/USA (tax ID 94-2474731), a non-profit, charitable organization organized under California law and currently having offices at 1120 20th St. NW, Suite 520S, Washington, DC 20036, __________% of the residuary of my estate, after all other specific provisions have been fulfilled OR a specific gift of $________ to be used for its general purposes.
Specific Purpose
I give, devise and bequeath to the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation/USA (tax ID 94-2474731), a non-profit, charitable organization organized under California law and currently having offices at 1120 20th St. NW, Suite 520S, Washington, DC 20036, __________% of the residuary of my estate, after all other specific provisions have been fulfilled OR a specific gift of $________ to be used for _______________ (for example…..the operation and maintenance of: JGI’s Africa Programs or the Roots & Shoots program).
Contingency Gift
I devise and bequeath the residue of the property owned by me at my death, real and personal, and wherever situate, to my (wife, husband, other individual you would describe) NAME, if (he/she) survives me. If my (wife, husband, other individual) does not survive me, I devise and bequeath my residuary estate to the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation/USA (tax identification number 94-2474731), a non profit organization organized under California law and currently having offices at 1120 20th St. NW, Suite 520S, Washington, DC 20036 for its general purposes (or for specific purpose).
We hope these examples are helpful. Please remember that JGI does not provide tax and legal advice. We advise that you consult with an estate and/or financial planning professional familiar with the laws of your home State when making your plans.
