Safeguarding Framework
The Jane Goodall Institute and Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots model a world in which all
individuals are free from harm and abuse. The JGI Code of Ethics & Business Conduct
details the expectation of all JGI personnel to treat one another and everyone within the
communities with which we work with the highest levels of compassion, dignity, and
respect.
To prevent violations of every human’s right to live free from harm, abuse, and exploitation,
JGI centers three safeguarding objectives:
OBJECTIVE 1: To support an organizational culture that prioritizes and protects human
rights.
OBJECTIVE 2: To learn and grow from the community feedback and evaluations of our
programs and our community-led, participatory approach.
OBJECTIVE 3: To hold ourselves responsible and accountable for our actions.
Collectively, these objectives will help us to:
Prevent safeguarding violations and promptly address safeguarding complaints through a
transparent response chain, utilizing due process, that holds offenders accountable.
Improve healthy collaboration, relationship, and feedback measures with the constituents
who interact with our work and programs.
Continue to reduce the occurrence of safeguarding complaints while increasing awareness
and confidence in JGI’s safeguarding reporting mechanism.
Identify JGI as an organization that:
maintains the highest standards of care for its constituents, and actively ensures that all JGI
personnel extend respect to, honor the experience of, and solicit the voice of any individual
in all interactions involving the Institute
Reporting Safeguarding Concerns
JGI encourages the reporting of safeguarding concerns in good faith and is committed to
responding promptly, fairly, and appropriately to complaints or concerns involving
misconduct, abuse, exploitation, harassment, or other safeguarding risks.
Reports may be made through designated JGI reporting channels and will be handled in
accordance with applicable policies, confidentiality requirements, and due process
considerations.
